MESSAGE TO AFGHAN COMMUNITY IN SCOTLAND
Message from Assistant Chief Constable Gary Ritchie – 10 September 2021
In recent weeks and months the situation in Afghanistan has led to a humanitarian crisis, resulting in a number of Afghani citizens being relocated to Scotland and other United Kingdom nations.
Police Scotland warmly welcomes all those who have recently arrived from Afghanistan. We want you to feel safe and supported whilst you begin to rebuild you and your family’s lives here in Scotland.
We do not want anyone to feel marginalised or be isolated in their new homes or communities, as there is already far reaching support amongst Scottish communities for Afghani nationals to integrate and become part of the already rich diverse population of Scotland.
Should there be any concerns affecting Afghan communities both settled and those newly arrived, I would encourage you to contact the police or local partner agencies. This will allow police and partners to work together to ensure as smooth a transition as possible for those newly arrived from Afghanistan. This will also help to address any emerging issues or tensions or fears.
