Funding to Support the Historic Environment Sector
Description: Funding is made available through Historic Environment Scotland’s Partnership Fund to support the costs of delivering up to three different areas of activity for up to three years. The types of activities that will be eligible for grant under the Partnership Fund will vary, but some examples include: professional or volunteer training programmes addressing recognised historic environment skills gaps at a national level; developmental, advocacy or capacity-building activities enabling the sector to achieve strategic outcomes in line with national priorities; outreach activities or learning programmes delivering high-impact outcomes for audiences across Scotland.
Criteria: Third sector organisations across Scotland will be able to apply for multi-year funding to support projects and activities delivering national impact for Scotland’s historic environment sector.
Closing Date: Expressions of Interest by 15th August 2022

Grants for the Planting and Care of Trees, Hedges and Orchards
Description: The Tree Council has announced that it will re-open its Branching Out Fund in July. Through the Fund, schools, community groups, parish and town councils, and tree warden networks within the UK will be able to apply for grants of between £300 and £1,500 to get communities and young people up to the age of 21 involved in planting and caring for trees, hedges and orchards.
Criteria: The funding will cover the cost of trees, hedges and fruit trees; reasonable costs of non-plastic protection and supports, as well as peat-free compost and/or soil improvers.
Minimum: £300
Maximum: £1,500
Closing Date: Branching Out Fund opens in July.

Description: Constituted community groups can apply for grants of £2,500 for projects which will make artistic and aesthetic improvements along the National Cycle Network in Scotland, with the ultimate aim of encouraging more people to travel by bike or foot, and making cycle routes more attractive and enjoyable. Sustrans’ Scotland ArtRoots Fund encourages the showcasing of local talent and expression for youngsters through their arts, and encourages local communities to shape their local environment and become more active.
Criteria: Applications from non-constituted groups will be considered, as will grants of £5,000 if applicants can demonstrate that higher funding will lead to a significant increase in new active travel journeys.
Maximum: £2,500 and £5,000

Let's Do Net Zero Community Buildings Fund
Description: The new Let’s Do Net Zero Community Buildings Fund under CARES will help community organisations reduce their building energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
Criteria: Funding is available for many types of self-managed community buildings, including
village halls, community centres, community hubs, sports facilities and faith buildings. Applicants must be constituted non-profit distributing community organisations, including organisations with charitable status, that are established and operating across a geographically defined community or faith groups.
Maximum: Grant funding is available for up to 80% of eligible costs up to a maximum of £80,000.
Closing Date: The fund is planned to run until the end of March 2025, subject to funding availability.

Scottish Landfill Communities Fund Accepting Applications for 2022
Description: Funding is available for not-for-profit organisations to enhance the environment of communities affected by landfill operations in Scotland. Viridor Credits Environmental Company is offering grants of up to £25,000 for constituted, not-for-profit organisations for projects that address one or more of the following objectives as defined by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA):

Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust Sustainable Futures Fund (UK)
Description: The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust recognises that climate change caused by human activity is threatening the well-being of humanity and that the wealthiest countries and individuals are responsible for a disproportionate share of emissions, whilst the poorest countries and sections of society are the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. In order to tackle this issue, the Sustainable Futures fund focuses grant making on:

Closing Date: To apply, organisations need to register with the Trust's grants management system. The deadline to register is the 28th October 2022 and the deadline to apply is 5pm on the 14th November 2022

Description: The Woodland Trust has announced that it has thousands of free tree packs available to community groups and schools across the UK, plus nurseries, colleges, universities and outdoor learning centres. The trees are available for planting on an area that is accessible to the public so that it can be used and enjoyed by others. Tree packs available include hedging, copse, wild harvest, year round colour, working wood, wild wood and urban trees. If applying as a school, trees should be planted on either the school grounds, land the school has arranged regular access to or in an area that is publicly accessible.
Criteria: Applications for a tree pack for a community group need to: state that the land is accessible to the public, make sure the local community is aware of the plans to plant and is happy for the project to go ahead, be applying for up to 420 trees in each application cycle or season. There are two delivery periods per year in November and March, when the trees are dormant and perfect for planting.

Funding to Support the Manufacturing Industry to Reduce Emissions & Cut Waste
Description: More than £25 million in funding is available over the next four years to support the Scottish manufacturing industry to reduce emissions and cut waste. The funding will support businesses that wish to pursue business growth by developing low carbon products, processes, technologies or services.
Criteria: Businesses will be required to fund the rest of the project independently once an amount has been allocated.
Maximum: Grants of over £150,000 are available, with amounts varying depending on the type of proposal – whether it is a research and development, a capital investment, or an environmental aid project.
Closing Date: Funding will be available from 19 May 2022 until 31 March 2026 and applicants should submit an expression of interest in the first instance.

The kind of costs we can cover are quite wide-ranging; typical examples include: legal fees for setting up a legal entity for the enterprise and/or registration as a charity or Community Interest Company; rent, website, branding, logo design and marketing materials; stationery, insurances.
Criteria: You can apply for Start it if you have an idea for a social enterprise but need some funding to get it up and running. The idea should be new, not a continuation of something already existing. Applicants who have never had an award from us before will be prioritised.

Electric Bike Loan Scheme for Individuals
Description: To encourage sustainable and active travel, Transport Scotland are making interest-free loans available to help Scottish residents purchase new electric bikes, including cargo and adapted cycles. The scheme offers interest-free loans for individuals, repayable over four years, that can be used for: 2 x ebikes capped at £3,000 each; 1 x family eCargo bike capped at £6,000; or 1 x adapted cycle.
Criteria: Applicants must not make any other payment towards the purchase of the ebike(s) before receiving a loan offer as funding is not provided retrospectively.
Minimum: £0
Maximum: £6,000
Closing Date: The fund is administered by Energy Saving Trust, which will process applications on a first come, first served basis all year round, subject to the availability of loan funds.

Delivered in partnership with the National Lottery Community Fund and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, The Scottish Land Fund enables both urban and rural communities to successfully manage local land and land assets to meet local need and deliver benefit for the whole community. Practical support will also be provided to help communities to develop their aspirations into viable projects.
Criteria: Applicants can be from one of a wide range of representative community bodies, including voluntary organisations, social enterprises or community councils.

Description: A new five-year £70 million Scottish Government Recycling Improvement Fund to improve recycling services and treatment infrastructure has opened to applications. New innovations and improvements could include: promoting waste prevention or reuse; improving the consistency of collections; collecting problematic materials such as electrical items; improving sorting and treatment infrastructure; introducing new low-carbon technologies that would deliver wider environmental benefits, or encouraging behaviour change.
Criteria: Local authorities, groups of local authorities and local authority-led partnerships involving the third and private sectors are invited to apply to the Recycling Improvement Fund to help drive new innovations and improvements to recycling in their area and across the country.

Garfield Weston Foundation
Description: The Foundation aims to be responsive to where need is greatest and therefore supports a wide range of charitable activity in the following categories: Arts, Education, Youth, Health, Museums & Heritage, Community, Environment, Faith and Welfare. Funding Available for Green Projects
Description: Delivery company DPD has announced that grants of up to £2,000 are available through its Eco Fund. Previous projects supported included £1,000 to purchase seven recycling bins for a school canteen; these bins allowed pupils to segregate waste, reducing the amount of waste going into landfill and £1,700 funding to a primary school to redevelop its forest school facility and plant hedgerows creating an environment for wildlife to thrive.
Criteria: The fund is open to anyone but schools and educational facilities across the UK working on green projects with their students and start-up companies working on developing environmentally friendly products are particularly encouraged to apply.

Funding to Help Save Nationally Important Heritage Assets at Risk of Loss Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic
Description: The National Heritage Memorial Fund’s Covid-19 Response Fund will support a broad range of heritage, from fine and decorative arts to museum collections and archives, historic buildings and land, and items of industrial, transport and maritime heritage. Successful applications could include: acquisition costs, urgent conservation works necessary as a result of COVID-19, fixed term support to enable heritage assets to be sustainably re-homed, interim safeguarding costs and investment in permanent solutions to support heritage assets for the long term.
