Art of Hosting in Argyll and Bute: 2024 New Year’s Update
Introduction
As we enter 2024, we reflect on the progress we’ve made and look ahead to the opportunities that lie before us. Art of Hosting provides a shared language for partners to engage with and co-produce alongside our communities. This methodology enables participatory approaches that foster collaboration, innovation, and meaningful engagement. Within Argyll and Bute, our mission is to embed Art of Hosting as a tool to strengthen networks, empower communities, and create spaces for shared learning and mutual support.
The Community of Practice serves as a vital platform where participants can support one another, build connections, and explore opportunities for collaboration and learning. It embodies our commitment to fostering a culture of engagement and collective action across the region.
Staying Connected
To support our growing network, we have established a Basecamp group and a WhatsApp group for participants to stay connected, share information, and seek support:
- Basecamp Group: This platform includes a dedicated section for files and resources, making it easy to access key documents, tools, and guidance. It is also a space where participants can reach out for support, share ideas, and collaborate. Participants should have been automatically added to this group and received communication through the Basecamp channels. However, if you are not in the group and wish to be added, please contact me directly, and I will ensure you are included.
- WhatsApp Group: For quick updates, questions, and informal discussions, we encourage you to join our WhatsApp group. You can access it through this link: Join WhatsApp Group.
Both platforms are designed to foster a sense of community and ensure that everyone has access to the information and support they need.
Progress in 2024
In 2024, we made significant strides in introducing and embedding Art of Hosting in Argyll and Bute. Key achievements included:
- Residential Trainings: We hosted two highly impactful residential trainings, which planted the seeds of Art of Hosting in the region. These sessions equipped participants with participatory leadership skills and built confidence in hosting community conversations.
- Community of Practice: We launched our first Community of Practice session, creating a space for participants to share experiences, overcome challenges, and learn from one another.
These activities established a strong foundation for building a thriving Art of Hosting network.
Plans for 2025
Looking ahead to 2025, our plans are intentionally flexible to remain responsive to the needs of our communities. Key activities include:
- February: An online Community of Practice session to reconnect, reflect, and share progress.
- April/May: An in-person gathering in Inveraray to deepen connections and skills (dates to be confirmed).
- Autumn: Another in-person gathering to sustain momentum and strengthen networks.
- Bi-Monthly Online Meetings: Regular online Community of Practice sessions to maintain engagement and mutual support.
Additionally, there will be a small number of funded places available for a Scotland-wide Art of Hosting training. This training is ideal for those who wish to take a leading role in embedding Art of Hosting within Argyll and Bute. Dates will be announced soon, and those interested are encouraged to contact me directly for further details.
Our approach will remain organic, allowing us to adapt to emerging needs and opportunities. Together, we aim to cultivate a thriving community of practice, empowering individuals and organizations to create meaningful change through Art of Hosting.
Call to Action
As we prepare for another year of growth and collaboration, we encourage everyone to make the most of the Basecamp and WhatsApp platforms. These channels are excellent spaces for reflection and sharing. Please take a moment to consider the following questions and share your insights:

- What resources, guidance, or support would make it easier for you to integrate Art of Hosting into your daily practice?
Your contributions will not only help us learn from one another but will also guide us in creating resources and support tailored to your needs. Let’s use these platforms to build a stronger, more connected community together.
