Latest OSCR Sector Overview Report

The latest version of the Sector Overview Report is now available, providing an outline of the charity sector in Scotland over the last three months.

Based on the information provided by charities on the Scottish Charity Register, the report details the scale and scope of the charity sector in Scotland.

It is a dynamic, interactive report which allows readers to filter data and select different options to view the most relevant information.

Some of the key figures from the report, which covers the period from April to June 2024, include:

  • Almost the same number of charities have been registered in the last quarter as have been removed from the Register.
  • 212 charities have been registered and 215 have been removed.
  • 7,129 charities have an annual income of under £5,000, which is just under a third of all Scottish charities.
  • Charities with income of £500,000 or more make up only 7% of charities on the Register, but they account for around 92% of the total income of all charities registered in Scotland.
  • The most common charitable purpose is “the advancement of education”, with 51% of Scottish charities stating this as one of their purposes.
