Domestic abuse: keeping women safe in Argyll and Bute

Background Recent research carried out in Argyll and Bute highlighted the reality of living with domestic abuse for women and children across the area’s rural, island and more remote places. Women and local professionals were interviewed for the research which identified the reality of delivering services and implementing domestic abuse- informed practices (DA-I) in Argyll and Bute. The women and the professionals offered their recommendations for the future development of local domestic abuse service responses. Workshop aims: · To provide an opportunity to engage with key findings and recommendations from the research. · To explore its value as an evidence base for the ongoing development of local agency responses to domestic abuse. Workshop objectives: Participants will: · Learn about local women’s and children’s experiences of domestic abuse. · Hear about women’s engagement with local services. · Discover the challenges and opportunities facing local professionals working with those affected. · Explore the implications of the research recommendations for the future development of local domestic abuse service responses. Facilitator: Dr Anni Donaldson. Anni is the research report author. She is an independent scholar, feminist oral historian, journalist, and consultant. She is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Strathclyde, and Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. She specialises in research into women’s lives with a particular focus on domestic abuse and sexual violence in Scotland. |
