Free Online Training to Help Communities Prepare for Severe Weather and Climate Change

Charities, voluntary groups, and community responders across Argyll and Bute are being encouraged to take advantage of a series of free online training courses from the Met Office, designed to strengthen community resilience against severe weather and the ongoing impacts of climate change.
The Met Office’s Community Resilience Training Programme offers accessible and practical support for anyone working or volunteering within local communities. The sessions are open to all and are particularly relevant for third sector staff, volunteers, and community groups looking to boost preparedness, improve access to information, and plan more effectively.
The prospectus outlines a range of topics from understanding severe weather warnings and Met Office services, to responding to winter weather hazards, and adapting to the realities of climate change. All sessions are delivered by operational Met Office staff and include practical demonstrations, useful resources, and Q&A opportunities.
📅 Upcoming course dates include:
Met Office Services & Weather Information – 6 August & 9 December
Winter Weather Hazards – 1 October & 10 November
Climate Change & Community – 9 September & 18 November
All sessions run from 4.00 PM to 5.30 PM.
Places are free but registration is required for most dates.
“This training is an excellent opportunity for those working in and with communities to gain real insight into the tools and support available. The Met Office is a trusted authority, and these sessions are a valuable chance to build local knowledge and preparedness in the face of growing climate and weather-related risks.”
