Argyll Countryside Trust (ACT) charity has been established to care for, enhance and promote the coast and countryside of Argyll and the Isles so that it can be enjoyed by the people that live, work and visit here.
ABCAN, the Argyll & Bute Climate Action Network is fully funded in 25-26 by the Scottish Government as one of a network of Climate Action Hubs established across Scotland. The hub is overseen by a working group of organisations from across Argyll & Bute and aims to deliver locally relevant networking and support for community climate action.
Main Functions of Argyll & Bute Climate HUB:
In order to achieve the Scottish Government aim to provide a strategic regional approach to community led climate action, by developing local plans, helping groups identify funding opportunities, and facilitating networking between groups to ensure a joined up approach is taken to tackle climate change. ABCAN activities include, but are not limited to: mapping existing activity; identifying barriers; supporting communities to design and deliver mitigation and adaptation; enabling participation from communities with little previous involvement; facilitating learning and sharing; coordinating activity; develop working relationships; signposting and identifying support, services and funding, hosting climate conversations and designing and sharing resources across the region for the resulting activities.
Job Purpose:
As part of the ABCAN team, which includes community engagement and comms roles, the role of the ABCAN Community Coordinator, will be to provide a point of contact for the community groups in the network. You will build relationships with the network and communities who are either already engaged in some form of climate action work, or are new to these types of projects and assist them on their journey to engaging with the network. You will introduce the concepts and opportunities for climate action to those currently unaware or removed from conversations on climate, either by supporting them to develop seed funding projects, or undertake carbon literacy training or via a new climate charter scheme to embed climate action in their work. The role will involve attendance at events and activities either online or in person to support project delivery. This is an exciting time for ABCAN, and there is an opportunity to shape the role working with the wider Team.
Main Duties and responsibilities
Reporting to the ACT Now Manager (Team Lead), and in liaison with ABCAN project steering group to create a project plan for the resulting activities:
- To provide ongoing support and maintenance to the ABCAN network, creating and sharing learning opportunities through the established Mighty Network platform
- Strengthen relationships by promoting seed funding to existing diverse and representative community organisations, as well as supporting a new audience to take climate action
- Contribute to the strategic objectives and core functions of the A&B Climate Hub by engaging with communities in the area to address inequality and promote key climate themes
- Assist with development, promotion and engagement with a new climate charter for Argyll
- Contribute and support members events, general events and initiatives that communicate community led climate action
- Support members and communities to contribute to policy at both a regional and national level
- Identify opportunities for peer support and regional training sessions to meet members needs
- Represent ABCAN and ACT at key events, networks and initiatives
- As part of the ABCAN Team, promote the project –prepare literature, (posters, informative leaflets) resources and online content to communicate climate change to the community sector
- To assist with regular reporting on project outputs (via the Team Lead) on project progress in line with project timeline and milestones.
- To maintain the ABCAN membership, project mailing and volunteer lists in accordance with Data Protection.
- To assist the Team Lead by providing secretariat to Steering Group meetings
- Engage and exchange with ACT’s other projects and staff.
- To conduct work in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way, in keeping with the ethos of ACT and our objectives.
Skills and Qualifications

· Clean driving license and use of a car
· Knowledge and understanding of the complexities of climate change · A good understanding of the responsibilities around Data Protection |
