Our Decision to Leave Platform X and Our New Social Media Policy

At the beginning of this year, we made the decision to discontinue our presence on Platform X (formerly Twitter) as part of a wider review of our social media strategy. Since then, we have seen a growing number of organisations across the public, third, and business sectors making similar choices, reaffirming the concerns that led to our decision.

Why We Made This Decision

As an organisation committed to ethical, effective, and meaningful engagement, we regularly assess how best to connect with our community. Following this review, several key concerns emerged regarding Platform X:

  • Declining Engagement – Our content was reaching fewer people, making it harder to connect with our audience.
  • Algorithmic Changes – The increasing shift towards paid promotions made organic engagement more difficult.
  • Reputational Risks – Concerns around moderation, misinformation, and safeguarding meant the platform no longer aligned with our values.
  • Audience Migration – Many of our members and stakeholders are more active elsewhere, meaning our efforts are better placed on platforms where we can engage more effectively.

With these factors in mind, we decided to redirect our resources to platforms that better support our work and community connections.

Our Updated Social Media Strategy

As part of this transition, we have also reviewed and strengthened our Social Media Policy to ensure our online engagement remains strategic, ethical, and aligned with our values. Key changes include:

Focusing on platforms where our audience is most active, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
Strengthening governance to ensure ethical and responsible engagement.
Providing clearer staff guidelines on professional use, content approval, and best practices.

What This Means for Our Members

  • We will continue to share updates, campaigns, and opportunities across our active social channels and email communications.
  • We encourage you to engage with us on the platforms where we remain active to stay connected.
  • We will periodically review our approach, ensuring we continue to meet the needs of our members and stakeholders.

We believe this shift will allow us to communicate more effectively, strengthen our digital engagement, and ensure that our online presence reflects our values.
